Situ\u00e9 \u00e0&nbsp;<a title=\"Matera\" href=\"https:\/\/fr.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Matera\">Matera<\/a>, en&nbsp;<a title=\"Basilicate\" href=\"https:\/\/fr.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Basilicate\">Basilicate<\/a>, c&rsquo;est un exemple exceptionnel d&rsquo;habitat troglodytique occup\u00e9 depuis le&nbsp;<a title=\"Pal\u00e9olithique\" href=\"https:\/\/fr.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Pal%C3%A9olithique\">pal\u00e9olithique<\/a>&nbsp;jusqu&rsquo;\u00e0 nos jours.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">L&rsquo;agglom\u00e9ration de Matera s&rsquo;est d\u00e9velopp\u00e9e \u00e0 partir du Moyen \u00c2ge sur le flanc ouest d&rsquo;un profond ravin creus\u00e9 par la Gravina. Les sassi (litt\u00e9ralement, les pierres) de Matera d\u00e9signent deux ensembles s\u00e9par\u00e9s par un promontoire rocheux au c\u0153ur de la vieille ville&nbsp;: le&nbsp;<i>Sasso Barisano<\/i>, au nord, et le&nbsp;<i>Sasso Caveoso<\/i>, au sud.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Matera Italy, Beautiful 4k Video, Drone &amp; Walking Tour of (Matera Basilicata)\" width=\"600\" height=\"338\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/NdhJMZtxvBE?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Les maisons en sassi ne comprennent souvent qu&rsquo;une fa\u00e7ade ma\u00e7onn\u00e9e, perc\u00e9e d&rsquo;une porte surmont\u00e9e d&rsquo;une petite fen\u00eatre, qui vient fermer un espace creus\u00e9 dans la roche. Surtout pr\u00e9sentes dans le&nbsp;<i>Sasso Caveoso<\/i>, elles sont dites&nbsp;<i>casa grotta<\/i>&nbsp;ou&nbsp;<i>casa tamponata<\/i>. Mais certaines, dites&nbsp;<i>casa lamione<\/i>, sont augment\u00e9es d&rsquo;extensions plus importantes surmont\u00e9es d&rsquo;un toit, qui forme parfois une terrasse ou peut servir de passage pour circuler dans la ville. Group\u00e9es autour d&rsquo;une cour commune, plusieurs habitations partageaient un certain nombre d&rsquo;installations, notamment une citerne, elle aussi creus\u00e9e dans la roche, approvisionn\u00e9e par l&rsquo;eau de pluie recueillie sur le plateau. D&rsquo;autres b\u00e2timents, en particulier dans le&nbsp;<i>Sasso Barisano<\/i>, atteignent la dimension de palais Renaissance de deux ou trois \u00e9tages prolong\u00e9s de cavit\u00e9s plus ou moins \u00e9tendues dans les flancs du ravin, pi\u00e8ces \u00e0 vivre mais surtout caves et citernes.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"La place de l\u2019\u00e9glise \u00e0 Matera\" width=\"600\" height=\"338\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/9VfBZMdjq2A?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><em>Ci-dessus la place de l&rsquo;\u00e9glise \u00e0 Matera !!<\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Cet habitat troglodyte creus\u00e9 dans le tuf s&rsquo;\u00e9tage sur plusieurs niveaux, parfois une dizaine. L&rsquo;ensemble, qui comptait environ 18&nbsp;000 habitants au d\u00e9but des ann\u00e9es 1950, forme ainsi un syst\u00e8me urbain complexe, parcouru d&rsquo;escaliers et de ruelles \u00e9troites, o\u00f9 les constructions se superposent aux cavit\u00e9s naturelles et artificielles am\u00e9nag\u00e9es.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Le parc, qui s&rsquo;\u00e9tend au-del\u00e0 des Sassi proprement dits sur les deux flancs du ravin de la Gravina, comprend environ 150 \u00e9glises rupestres creus\u00e9es par les communaut\u00e9s monastiques qui s&rsquo;y sont succ\u00e9d\u00e9, pour l&rsquo;essentiel entre le&nbsp;<abbr class=\"abbr\" title=\"8\u1d49 si\u00e8cle\"><span class=\"romain\">viii<\/span><sup>e<\/sup><\/abbr>&nbsp;si\u00e8cle et le&nbsp;<abbr class=\"abbr\" title=\"14\u1d49 si\u00e8cle\"><span class=\"romain\">xiv<\/span><sup>e<\/sup><\/abbr>&nbsp;si\u00e8cle<sup id=\"cite_ref-1\" class=\"reference\"><a href=\"https:\/\/fr.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Sassi_et_parc_des_%C3%A9glises_rupestres_de_Matera#cite_note-1\">1<\/a><\/sup>. Certaines sont d\u00e9cor\u00e9es de fresques.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Le parc renferme aussi de nombreux sites arch\u00e9ologiques remontant au Pal\u00e9olithique, comme la&nbsp;<i>Grotta dei Pipistrelli<\/i>&nbsp;(Grotte des Chauves-Souris), et au N\u00e9olithique, comme les sites de&nbsp;<a title=\"Culture de Serra d'Alto\" href=\"https:\/\/fr.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Culture_de_Serra_d%27Alto\">Serra d\u2019Alto<\/a>, de Murgecchia, de Murgia Timone et de Trasanello.<\/p>\n<p><a
